If you're having trouble watching Prime Video through your computer's web browser, here are some solutions that may help.
Verify Minimum System Requirements
To watch Prime Video, your computer, web browser, and Internet connection need to meet minimum system requirements.
To learn more, go to Prime Video System Requirements for Computers.
Try a Different Web Browser
If you have another web browser available on your computer, try using it instead. There may be a temporary problem or incompatible setting with the browser you originally used for video playback.
Supported browsers include:
- Chrome (version 64 or newer)
- Firefox (version 62 or newer)
- Internet Explorer (version 11 or newer)
- Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 (version 15 or newer)
- Safari (version 10 or newer on Mac OS 10.12.1 or newer)
- Opera (version 37 or newer)
The HTML5 player is optimized to work with our service, and doesn't use separate browser plugins to play video content. It also includes features like Auto Play, Watch Live (for Prime Video Channels), and playback in 1080p High Definition.
For Help with the Silverlight player on Safari and previous versions of Internet Explorer, see the section below.
Resolve Silverlight Issues
Microsoft Silverlight is a browser plugin used to play video content on Safari and some previous versions of Internet Explorer.
Enabling and clearing Silverlight application storage resolves most intermittent Prime Video playback problems on these browsers.
To turn application storage on:
- Right-click the player window, and then select Silverlight.
- Open the Application Storage tab, and check the box next to Enable application storage.
To clear application storage:
- Right-click the player window, and then select Silverlight.
- Open the Application Storage tab. In the 'Website' column, select http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/.
- Click Delete, and then click OK.
- Close and re-open your web browser, then try streaming the video again.
For more information about Silverlight application storage, go to Get Microsoft Silverlight.
If you're still experiencing streaming issues, go to Microsoft Support to uninstall and reinstall the Silverlight player:
- For PC: Go to How to clean and reinstall Silverlight, click the Microsoft Fix It button, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- For Mac: To uninstall Silverlight, go to Removing Silverlight plugins on Mac. After uninstalling, go to Get Microsoft Silverlight to reinstall.
Note: Silverlight is not currently supported on non-Intel Mac (PowerPC processor) computers and Linux/UNIX operating systems (including Chrome OS). You can use Chrome to watch Prime Video on Linux/UNIX systems.
Reset DRM Licenses
Resetting your DRM Settings can resolve many video playback issues.
Note: Digital Rights Management (DRM) is an access control technology set by content owners to manage the use of their protected digital content. Your computer's display must meet content protection requirements, and changes to your computer, monitor, or system settings can cause intermittent issues with DRM technologies. To learn more, go to What is Content Protection?
To automatically reset your DRM Settings on a Windows PC:
- Launch Microsoft's DRM Reset Tool.
- Click Save File to download ResetDRM.exe, and then click Run.
To manually reset your DRM Settings on a PC or Mac computer:
- Find the mspr.hds file on your computer.
- Windows 7 and above: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftPlayReady
- Windows XP: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftPlayReady
- Mac (from Finder): Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/PlayReady(Note: You may first need to select Go > Computer > Macintosh HD ).
- Rename the mspr.hds file to anything else (For example:old_mspr.hds).
To see a table of compatible browsers and operating systems, select your version of Silverlight below (or click here to go to Microsoft's Silverlight Homepage and select Silverlight-compatible operating systems):
Note: Currently, only version 4 of Silverlight will run in Google Chrome on a Mac OS X; and only version 5 of Silverlight will run in a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer.

Compatibility Add-on for Chrome or Firefox
There is a free browser extension called 'IE Tab' that runs Windows Internet Explorer (IE) components within a tab in Chrome or Firefox. This enables you to display web pages that use Silverlight (such as CTI Navigator Web) within your Chrome or Firefox browser, even if the browser itself does not correctly load Silverlight. The IE Tab also includes an 'Auto URL' filter and a Bookmarks feature that allow you to specify which URLs should always be loaded with IE Tab.
Even though it does not open the IE browser per se, IE Tab uses the IE Browser Control core engine. Therefore, to ensure full security when using IE Tab, the latest version of Internet Explorer should be installed on your computer and it should be kept up-to-date with the latest security patches from Microsoft.
You can read about and download IE Tab at www.ietab.net.
